The tale of this day in the book I received for the Father's day in 1990. Today it is the birthday of a brilliant writer, I highly recommended her book for this summer!

Although three weeks had already passed since her arrival, Flo continued to feel miserable at the boarding school. She wrote heartbreaking letters to her father, in which she described the hard life at the boarding school. But the worst punishment for her consisted of so-called "women's work": sewing, knitting, embroidery, all activities that Flo deeply hated. One day the principal demanded to see the girl's work: she took with two fingers and with a disgusted air the shabby stocking Flo handed her and showed it to the pupils, who burst into a hearty laughter! Flo barely suppressed her anger, but as soon as the principal left the classroom, the young girl took the work and threw it violently into a corner. The ball rolled out the door and stopped just in front of the principal' shoes. Out of her mind, Flo decided to leave on the spot, and Charlotte and Miss Susan had their hands full trying to calm her down and convince her that she should apologize for her behavior. Finally the little rebel gave in and with trembling hand knocked on the principal' door. For the first time in her life she uttered the words, "I apologize."
