Unfortunately, many times appearances can be deceiving! the good old lady was none other than an ugly witch who ate children. Abandoning her fine manners, she had locked Hansel in a coop. Gretel, on the other hand, had to do all the chores around the house. Every day the old woman brought Hansel delicacies so that he would gain weight quickly, but that sly Hansel regularly tricked her, stretching a well-cleaned chicken bone instead of her finger when the witch wanted to feel how much the boy had grown. Each time the old woman, who could not see well, would go away in a rage and wonder why the boy was not getting fat. but one day, after feeling the chicken bone for the umpteenth time, she grew impatient and shouted to Gretel that she would eat her brother anyway, whether he was thin or fat, it didn't matter! "Light the stove right away, I want to bake bread to eat the little boy properly!" Then Gretel, not knowing how to save Hansel, pretended to be dumber than usual and told the witch that she was unable to light the fire. "You foolish girl. I've never seen an ignoramus like you! I'll show you, how to do it!" and headed like a fury for the stove. But Gretel was waiting for nothing else: when the old woman stuck her head into the mouth of the stove, the child gave her a strong push and the witch fell into the already lit stove.
